Let's face it. The climate has changed with respect to the level of scrutiny a public company sees on the part of its investors, shareholders and the SEC. As an officer or director of a public company, the "liability" bar has been raised by seemingly unending episodes of book cooking, self-dealing, earnings management, etc. Pushing the bar further up is the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which tightens the oversight of independent accountants and offers longer periods of R&R for executives who think they are more clever than the average bear.
You need to be able to rely on the financial and operational information generated by your company's systems. You need to know that what you are reporting to the public is, in fact, a true representation of what is going on. We have all heard CEOs claiming that they didn't know what was going on, or that the accounting for certain issues were so complicated that they didn't understand it. Quite frankly, there is probably a great deal of truth in these defenses, but they just won't fly in today's environment.

How would you like to have yesterday's operating results from your six plants, three of which are offshore, on your desk at 9:00 am today? Shipments, orders, backlog and manufacturing output on a consolidated basis as well as by plant and production line. If it sounds like a $500,000 implementation of software from Hyperion or Cognos, it could be, but what we're describing is in place at a $35 million company with a typical AS400-based ERP system.
The fact is that most systems already capture this information and do it both accurately and timely. This is well recognized by software companies that offer big reporting packages, many of which are very good, but most of which are very expensive.
Our approach is different. We know that most small and mid-sized companies do not want to shell out the big bucks for a management reporting system that then requires a full-time IT person or two to manage it. The reporting system described above utilizes a common SQL program (IBM Client Access) for moving data from the AS400 to a PC, which is then processed by a common database program (Microsoft Access). The resulting reports are saved in Adobe Acrobat format and uploaded to the company's Intranet. All of this is completed by a clerk by 9:00 am who spends the first 15 minutes of each day catching up on the latest gossip in the company kitchen.
The point is that you probably already have all of the tools necessary to accomplish this task. You don't need any software. You don't need any hardware. You just need some assistance to integrate what you currently have in place. As an additional benefit, these are tools that your people already know how to use, so you won't be faced with having to hire someone to be a guru. Make sense?

File Sharing - You are able to transfer files, such as QuickBooks, directly to us without worrying about the file size limitations imposed by email providers (usually under 20 megabytes). Even a relatively small QuickBooks file can exceed 20 megabytes. Also, the risk inherent in sending files through email (email is not secure, we're sure you know) is eliminated because when you log in to our server, you are establishing a secure connection. We can also send you files the same way and, when we do, you'll receive an email message letting you know about it. |
| Document Presentation - We can provide copies of anything from financial statements to tax returns to petty cash procedures using the document presentation window of your NetClientCS screen. Once again, this is all accomplished within a completely secure environment, the same type of system used by the most sophisticated financial institutions |
